March Meeting Minutes

There will be a self portrait contest, probably in June. Photos must have some representation of yourself, and you cannot have any help pushing the shutter. Entries will be prints, with no size or processing limitations, two entries maximum per person. Points for Photographer of the Year will be included. Marty Preuss and Mary Rauzi are in charge of this project, and will give more details at a later date.

Treasurer - We have almost reached our goal for the projector funds. We will begin looking into which model we will purchase.

Scavenger Hunt - Entries will be accepted by email until midnight this coming Sunday.

Exhibits - Bring photos for the Aurora Library to the April meeting. An exhibit at the new library on the square has been added for June.

Field Trips - We will be starting a weekly field trip on Tuesday nights. Watch the blog for the locations. Field trip idea: Road rally - this would be a planned route with several stopping points with a list of things to shoot at each point. We would end with lunch and a presentation of the shots taken. Several people will be needed to help with planning.

Second Thursday - April 10. Bob and Diane will critique photos, Tim will do recommended adjustments in Photoshop. Email photos to Tim.

February Meeting Minutes

The St. Louis Camera Club will present a seminar by Franz Lanting March 16, 2008. The cost is $79.00 including lunch. Contact Guy Fox if interested.

Treasurer - We are doing good on the projector fund.

Competitions - Bill is accepting entries for First Quarter Competition. Results will be given at the March meeting.

Scavenger Hunt - Categories announced. Entires will be accepted in March. Rules and categories can be viewed on the Scavenger Hunt Blog.

Field Trips - Check blog for upcoming events. Let Jim know if you have any ideas for future field trips.

Oscar Night - Dave Eslick reported that those who attended had a good time. There will be a display at the Gillioz this summer.

Second Thursday - The next meeting will be a round robin of information on shooting nature.

Wilson's Creek - There will be an exhibit in conjunction with the 2009 calendar project. More details TBA.

January Meeting Minutes

A survey was given out, to be turned in at the end of the meeting, or mailed or emailed to Tim.

The 2008 officers and committee chairs were introduced, and a brief report given by each.


  • Kim McKinney-Vice President: Kim is in charge of programs for the regular meetings, and would like to know what topics or ideas members have for meetings.

  • Guy Fox-Treasurer: The projector fund is $253.00 away from our goal.
  • Elaine Miller-Secretary: Members using mchsi for their email hosting should flag my addresses as always acceptable as I get a lot of returns when I send messages. The next Photogram deadline is Thursday, February 7. Let me know if you have anything you would like included.
  • Rita Szabo-Second Thursday: The next Second Thursday will be February 14, and will be divided into two parts. The first will be mini-sections and the second will be Photoshop with Tim Buchanan. Anyone who would like to lead a short presentation should contact Rita.
  • Jim Adams-Field Trips: Jim was absent, but has planned a field trip for February 2. We will meet at Christ Episcopal Church at Walnut & Kimbrough at 6:30 AM. Check out the Field Trip Blog for more details.
  • Bill Campbell-Quarterly Competitions: Entries for the First Quarter Competition will be due at the regular February meeting. The rules have been revised and will be posted on the website soon. The two major changes are that there will only be two categories: Color Print and B&W Print, and any image manipulation will be allowed. Two professional photographers and one photography instructor have agreed to judge. All are encouraged to participate.
  • Sandy Reese & Lisa Murphy-PR & Exhibits: We will try to have more exhibits this year. The list will be included in the Photogram, with photos being due the month before the exhibit date. Frames should be no larger than 16 X 20, and should have a wire hanger. Include your name, title, and price (if for sale) on the outside of the wrapping and on the back of the frame. Photos will be needed at the February meeting for the Busch Building. The club needs to decide soon if we are doing the Wilson's Creek calendar project again this year.
  • Steve Croxton-Web Page: The web site is currently being re-designed.

The club maintains a forum for members to share ideas and get tips and critiques on photos. Sign up at a meeting or email Tim or Steve for information on joining.

Tim brought samples of printing on different types of papers.

Ron Thornton has 8 mil clear bags for transporting photos. The cost is a $2.00 donation to the projector fund.

David Eslick introduced Leslie Carrier, who talked about Oscar Night America, Sunday, February 24, at the Gillioz Theatre. Springfield was chosen as one of 52 cities nationwide to host this event. It will be a gala evening, and photographers are needed. If you are interested in participating or want more information, contact David Eslick or Leslie Carrier at 823-9870. A commercial will be shot next Wednesday, January 30, at the Gillioz. Photographers will be needed as part of the scene. Contact David or Leslie for the exact time.

Guest Speaker: Terry Scroggins of Scroggins Portraits gave a talk on the importance of lighting.

October Minutes

There will be an Art Show at the Jubilee Theater Center, 109 Commercial St, Marshfield, MO (417-859-2410) Nov. 9-11. Included will be: watercolor, oil, acrylic paintings and photographs, music and refreshments. Call for times.

Our next meeting will be November 15 (a week early due to Thanksgiving).

August Meeting Minutes

Wilson's Creek calendar photos need to be turned in tonight.

Big Trip: We need to know ASAP if you are wanting to go, as the cabin reservations need to finalized by August 28. Contact David Strong with any changes.

Field Trip Coordinator: Jim Adams has agreed to be the Field Trip Coordinator for the rest of 2007. (The Field Trip Blog has been updated!)

Second Thursday: The next Second Thursday will be "Gadgets". Everyone is encouraged to bring a made or purchased gadget that helps with some aspect of photography. An example is the flash extender tube showed by Tom Riley. Contact Kim McKinney if you have any suggestions for Second Thursday meetings. We will have Second Thursday meetings in September and October, but not November or December due to holidays.

Exhibits: Fair winners should turn in their shots tonight for display at Lawrence Photo.

Scavenger Hunt: The categories were announced for the second Scavenger Hunt of 2007. They are:

  • Beat the Heat
  • Repetitive
  • Signs of Autumn
  • Texture
  • Creepy-Crawly
You may enter four categories. Entries are to be taken between Aug 23 and Sept. 27 and turned in at the September meeting. Complete rules can be found on the Scavenger Hunt Blog.

3rd Quarter Competition: Entries must be turned in tonight and will be judged on Saturday. Results will be given at the September meeting.

Announcement: Diane Kelsay will be having surgery for an aneurysm in her brain. If you would like to send her a note or card, email me for her new address.

July Meeting Minutes

"Big Trip" --begins on Sept. 15. We need to make reservations and put down a deposit soon. There will be a short meeting for all interested at the Village Inn after the regular meeting.

Portrait Studio: Rich Smith reminded members that the studio is available. Call if you are interested.

Second Thursday: August 9. Tom Riley will discuss fill flash techniques. Bring your camera, flash, and manual for specific help. More information in the August Photogram.

August Meeting Program: Art Daniels will discuss nature photography.

Club Projector: Guy will have a donation jar available at meetings, and hopes to be able to make the purchase by November. The projector costs $2,500. and we can use $1,000 from the treasury. Please be as generous as you are able!

We still need a Field Trip Co0rdinator! (Field trips are a great way to meet club members, see new-or familiar-places, and have a fun time taking pictures. The coordinator does not have to lead the field trips, just make sure they are scheduled and announced. ~Elaine) Contact Marty or Tim if you can help! Rich suggested a trip to The Butterfly House in St. Louis.

Wilson's Creek Calendar Project: We will meet in the Visitor's Center parking lot Saturday, July 28 at 5:15 AM. I will assign starting points for each person before we start out. You are welcome to join us even if you have not signed up.

Club Exhibits: Sandy reported there are no additional exhibits scheduled for the rest of the year. She also announced that Picture This is closing.

Day of Caring: Thursday, August 16. We currently have 5 signed up to help, but need more. Contact Beth if you are interested.

Future Big Trip: Bob and Diane have invited the camera club to join them at Monument Valley in September 2008.

Exhibit Announcements:

  • Alan O'Neal has an exhibit at Nearly Famous Deli
  • There will be an exhibit of Missouri insect photos at the Nature Center in August and September
  • The History Museum has old photos on display as part of the Ready, Set, Play exhibit. They are open 10:30 - 4:30 Monday - Saturday.
Members voted on the Krappy Kamera entries. Winners were announced at the end of the meeting.

Tim gave a presentation on Making Selections in Photoshop.
